Andrew is the founder of IPE, and is the Company’s current Managing Director. For the last 25 years he has worked as an independent specialist health and social services interim manager and social worker (senior practitioner). This experience, coupled to his extensive earlier Public Service career as a social worker and manager in England, Scotland and New Zealand, has enabled Andrew to become a highly regarded and skilled Health and Social Services Manager and Social Worker.
Through a long career he has gained extensive experience within most areas of social services management and social work practice*. During this time he has worked mostly in areas connected to services for adults; including people with physical and learning disabilities/difficulties, people with a mental illness and older people.
In addition to working as a manager and specialist social worker, Andrew accepts private client referrals, and undertakes independent assessments, investigations and consultation. Additionally he accepts referrals for provision of second opinions and staff mentorship.
Special Skills and Interests
Andrew has excellent service management, staff supervisory and team leadership skills. Linked to this he has extensive experience in interim management he has an interest in service development and operational management within adult health and social care organisations, especially managing services under pressure and/or in the process of change. In this capacity he has worked with Learning Disability and Adult Social Care staff teams as they adapt to meeting new challenges and demands. This has included specific areas such as modernising and developing learning disability services, safeguarding, intermediate care, personalisation and individual budgets.
Andrew is also an extremely experienced social worker with a strong interest in working with adults across older people, physical and learning disability services; including mental health tribunal work. He greatly enjoys working with staff engaged in these areas of work and is highly regarded as a manager, supervisor and staff mentor.
Recently Andrew has reduced his professional activity and this has allowed him to take up voluntary interests. As part of this he has become a Trustee of Home-Start – Stroud District Branch.
Andrew’s management style draws from his core social work values and his work is based on a motivational style, with a strong hands on approach. Central to this is working to people’s strengths and developing a team approach using his own skills in building each individual’s sense of professionalism and role within the organisation. He believes that developing staff co-operation, confidence and trust is fundamental to getting the best from people in meeting client’s needs and successfully addressing service objectives and change / transformation agendas.
